About Max Warlond
I am an adventurer with a passion for travel and photography. I live in Melbourne, Australia and over the last twenty years I have been travelling to all parts of the world capturing some truly amazing wildlife moments which I would now like to share with you all.
I have travelled to both the Arctic and Antarctic, Europe, Costa Rica, Peru, Argentina, the Galapagos, United Kingdom, India, Alaska, Yellowstone and other parts of the USA, British Columbia, the Yukon, and many other parts of Canada. I am a regular visitor to Africa – my favourite destination – climbing mountains, trekking through jungles and over deserts, and otherwise exploring this amazingly diverse continent.
Whether it is looking for polar bears in the Arctic or hummingbirds in Costa Rica, each trip is well planned and researched and has a very definite purpose. I find that this approach greatly increases my chances of being in the right place, at the right time for when the magic happens.
While many visitors to Africa are fortunate to see the ‘Big Five’ (Lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo and rhinoceros) on safari, it took me three trips before getting my first glimpse of the elusive leopard. A further trip was designed to track and photograph the African Wild Dog – a rarity on much of the continent – a successful and rewarding trip after a particularly long and rough search.
The major thing missing from my collection at this point is the Northern Lights. I was fortunate to see them briefly whilst in the Yukon, and recently travelled all the way to Norway to get photos of them but alas it wasn’t to be. They are magnificent and they are still out there when all conditions are favourable but you have to be there at the right time. Maybe next time?
